PROJECT1 : FINAL SUBMISSION

The Steinway and Sons inspired staircase featured in the back ground of my image is showcased in the ideal setting - ELEGANCE - TRANSCENDENCE - TRANQUILLITY
I allowed for my natural landscape to flow over into this space as it brings a more pleasant and organic feel to the overall room ambience. I incorporated more natural aspects into the space (trees, flowers and wood) to draw from the original design/concept of craftmanship of Steinway and Sons allowing it to link more directly to Heston Blumenthal on a structural and materialistic basis.

The "glass bowls" I used for my building should resemble a display case design to showcase art in its purest form. The simplicity and transparency of the building highlights the true beauty in the design and how two completely opposite design mentalities can intertwine and combine to form something so pure and beautiful.

The Mushroom design in the " Heston Blumenthal" inspired design is a more direct link to his creative and imaginative spirit as it literally embodies mushroom shapes. I used Mushrooms for more of a personal input as I find the shape and nature of the organism fascinating. It inspires the creation of new ides, shapes and materialistic factors of a design. They are beautiful, complex and fascinating from all aspects.

PROJECT1: STRUCTURE 2 (STAIRCASE APPLIED)

The second structures main form is derived from the Gossamer structure show up top. this building incorporates the fundamental ideas surrounding modernism where it uses clear lines and simplistic shapes. The staircase inspired by an organic point of view is incorporated into the design.

I like using glass and wood in this design as it creates such a clean and fresh ambiance. it also allows the main features to shine.

PROJECT1: STAIRCASE 3

I like the idea of pieces fitting together. I designed a stair that would perfectly fit into other pieces to create a type of methodical rise and fall to the structure - a wavy undertone.

PROJECT 1: HESTON STAIRCASE 2

Heston Blumenthal is a pioneer not only in terms of cooking and creating, but also in his approach to creation and out of the box thinking. Modernism and invention are at the core of all his work and i wanted to translate it through the staircase. By maintaining a more traditional form to my stairs I was able to find creation and quirky innovation in other forms surrounding the design. I used a literal mushroom creation because of my love for them! They have such a beautiful and organic shape to them that provide an idyllic platform for support and equal weight distribution.

PROJECT1: Steinway & Sons - Staircase 1

Since 1853, Steinway pianos have set an uncompromising standard for sound, touch, beauty, and investment value. Handcrafting each Steinway requires up to one full year – creating an instrument of rare quality and global renown - I wanted to translate this idea of Beauty and craftsmanship through to the stair case design. The cork design showcases elegance and a sleek designers element that allows for  an elegant rise and fall in use. The use of stainless steel and dark Rose wood is modern, fluid and transcendent.

PROJECT 3: OUTDOOR LIVING

In between the three main buildings,  unique and lush gardens fill the student lounging spaces underneath the skeleton like walkways that connect the three centers.

PROJECT3: FINALE SUBMISSION

The Bridge is a clear example of "up cycling" where I incorporated the preexisting bridge structure  with a functional and modern approach to building design. By using materials such as glass and second hand sand stone I was able to create a harmonious learning and creative environment with boundless opportunities for innovation -

The Library is a glass Dome shaped building that allows for a 360 degree view of the African landscape - beautiful and boundless. I purposefully chose the over use of glass material to accentuate the idea of incorporating nature throughout the building, bringing the external environment indoors. The Library should serve as the main social and academical "hub"- this is where the transparent walls and hallways connecting to other building will  nurture a balanced ecosystem.

By incorporating a continues "mezzanine" level throughout the Office block, I opened up closed spaces to create one continues studio where student and teacher interaction is promoted while maintaining closed off areas for privacy. The deans office takes the top floor as it looks over the entire landscape, with monumental glass windows opening up to the outside life.

The layout for my folly is directly derived from the Palladio: Villa Rodunda. access from all four sides via staircases while the main structure of the folly id derived from my perspective sketches. I repeated the use of recycles sandstone bricks while maintaining a modern touch by incorporating my moving texture.

This is where the majority of lectures and tutorials will take place as it hold the main Theater. This space was designed with a glass wall and roof to reflect the two other buildings. This then ties the three separate structures together creating the ideal cultural, social and educational environment.

The Bridge arches were inspired by the Villa Rotunda

PROJECT 3: MOVING ELEMENT - ELEVATOR

I designed this moving element as an elevator that has two half circles, meticulously gliding in and between floors while still allowing the option for a mezzanine level. This creates a more interactive atmosphere with in the students networks. This will ultimately help assist me in creating a sustainable and ever expanding creative culture with in the building.

PROJECT 3: Lumion Landscaping

I chose South Africa as a source of inspiration for the creating of my landscape. The Blyde River Canyon is a kaleidoscopic nirvana that I feel encapsulates the raw beauty and cultural heritage of Africa.

PROJECT 2: 5 IMAGES (MONUMENT)

The three custom textures I chose all reflect a level of simplicity while maintaining a sense of modernity. This directly reflects the notion of " modernity and natural living"
3 Custom textures:

Monument Photos (1-5)

This shot encapsulates the vast openness through out and in between the monuments highlighting the concept of open planned living and combining it with an out door setting. The space created is public and yet it holds vast opportunities for private space.

This shot is idyllic as it illustrated elevation in the public space, highlighting the different levels of living, incorporating another element into the space as elevation plays a key role in creating private and individualized space with out the use of conventional walls and or ceilings.

I included a "night time" frame of the public space that includes lights. the play of lights on the objects emphasizes the textures through out the space, including both natural and man made elements. This union is significant to the concept of "natural living" it highlights the lack of barriers between both the monuments as well as the public and the created space.
